For the opening few months of this season, it looked like the wheels may have come off. Montella’s team were being held to too many draws and were defeated in several of their most important matches against European rivals Roma, Lazio, Sampdoria and Napoli.

A 3-2 win against Atalanta on Sunday capped off a great week in Florence, as they had beaten Roma 2-0 on Tuesday to reach the semi-final of the Coppa Italia again. It has been a season-defining week, as the Viola have reached fourth place in the table for the first time this season, a great achievement after spending the first half of the season floundering in mid-table.

The true mettle and improvement of this FIorentina side will be gauged over the coming few weeks. They face two of Serie A’s most in-form sides next, Sassuolo and Torino, before a horrible run of fixtures in which they take on Inter, Juventus, Lazio and Milan consecutively.

Montella will also privately be buoyed by Sinisa Mihajlovic’s struggles at Sampdoria. The Blucerchiati were held to a 1-1 home draw against a Sassuolo team devoid of its entire front three of Domenico Berardi, Simone Zaza and Nicola Sansone, after大发赌球 being hammered 5-1 by Torino last weekend. This allowed the Viola to leapfrog Samp into fourth place, but they are still seven points off Napoli in third after Rafa Benitez’s side continue their strong form with a 3-1 win over Udinese.

There have been two particularly noticeable positives to take from this week. One was the return to form of Mario Gomez, who scored twice in the Coppa against Roma to remind fans of the German at his ruthless best. The other was the absence of Cuadrado. The Colombian winger has been such a decisive player for the Viola in recent seasons and so important to the way they play that it was feared the team could suffer from an on-pitch hangover in his absence.

Vincenzo Montella has not enjoyed the easiest of times as Fiorentina Coach. Since taking over in the summer of 2012, he has impressed with the imposition of an eye-catching, technical style of football in which the likes of Borja Valero and Juan Cuadrado have flourished.

He has taken them to two fourth place finishes and a Coppa Italia Final, buhg线上投注t the source of most frustration for Viola fans has been the injury problems experienced by Mario Gomez and Giuseppe Rossi, depriving Montella of a partnership that could provide the impetus for that next step – Champions League qualification or Coppa Italia victory.

Instead, their impressive form has continued, helped along by a goal from new signing Alessandro Diamanti against Atalanta, and Montella will be in confident mood ahead of their Europa League trip to Tottenham next Thursday.

Juventus beat Milan 3-1 in the weekend’s showcase clash. Luca Antonelli scored on his Milan debut but the result was marred by an ongoing war of words surrounding Carlos Tevez’s goal, which was shown as both onside and offside in different television replays. Roma got back to winning ways as Daniele Verde st真人博狗arred in a 2-1 win over Cagliari, and a Mauro Icardi double helped Inter to a 3-0 win over Palermo to end their run of defeats.

However, since a 1-0 loss to the Partenopei at the start of November, Fiorentina have gone on a hugely impressive run of domestic form, losing only once in their next 11 matches. Incredibly, that defeat came at the hands of the hapless Parma.
